2,2,2-Trifluoro-N-2-propyn-1-yl-acetamide (TFPA) is a molecule that can be used in diagnosing diseases. Specifically, it can be used for the detection of single-stranded DNA in mammalian cells. TFPA binds to a specific functional group and forms a hydrogen bond with the nucleic acid. The TFPA is then detected by fluorescence spectroscopy in an assay. This process has been shown to work well on both labeled and unlabeled TFPA molecules. TFPA also has the potential to be used as a molecular probe for nanotube formation. It is not currently known if TFPA will have any other uses in medicine or biology.
