2-(2H-Tetrazol-5-yl)ethanol is a tetranuclear metal complex that has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on bacterial growth. The mechanism of action is not known, but it may be due to the formation of a reactive intermediate that inhibits bacterial growth by interfering with DNA replication. 2-(2H-Tetrazol-5-yl)ethanol also has anti-inflammatory effects and has been shown to be a corrosion inhibitor. The compound can also quench luminescence, which makes it useful in analytical chemistry as a chemical indicator for certain ions.
