This compound is an orally bioavailable, potent, selective and efficacious inhibitor of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase (AChE). It has been shown to cross the blood-brain barrier in mice and inhibit AChE activity in the brain. The compound shows efficacy in animal models of Alzheimer's disease with a potency and a selectivity that are superior to those of other known inhibitors. The drug also improves memory and learning performance in these animal models. In addition, it does not produce any signs of toxicity even at high doses.
