Trigonelline is a natural compound found in coffee beans and tea leaves. It has been shown to have hypoglycemic effects, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of glucose-6-phosphatase by adipocytes. Trigonelline also has receptor activity as a ligand for toll-like receptors, which are proteins that bind to pathogen-associated molecular patterns on the surface of cells, triggering immune responses. Trigonelline is an important analytical method used for chromatographic analysis of biological samples such as HL60 cells.
