• Descripción: Thymolphthalein complexone is an analytical chemistry reagent that is used for the detection of glycol ethers in human serum. It reacts with the hydroxyl group in the glycol ether, forming a thymolphthalein complex. The carbonyl group of the glycol ether is converted to a carboxylate ion and this ion reacts with hydrochloric acid to form a red color. This reaction can be monitored by titration with sodium carbonate, which is added until the pH reaches 7.0. Thymolphthalein complexone can also be used as a diagnostic aid for influenza virus infections. In this case, it reacts with particles from the virus, forming a fluorescent molecule that emits light when irradiated with ultraviolet light.END>> END>>
