This compound has been shown to have a strong adsorption mechanism for hydrochloric acid, which may be due to its hydrophobic properties. 1-(Trimethoxysilyl)octane also has a high chemical stability, making it more useful than other glycol ethers for use in cleaning applications. 1-(Trimethoxysilyl)octane can be used as a fluorescent probe for fatty acids and boron nitride particles.; 1-(Trimethoxysilyl)octane can also be used in human serum samples to detect the presence of hydroxyl groups on acyl chains with ft-ir spectroscopy.
