Tetrakis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)porphyrin (TPPS) is a molecule with steric interactions that can be used as a catalyst for transfer reactions. TPPS has been shown to bind metal ions and function as a catalyst for the reduction of ethyl diazoacetate. This compound also binds to DNA with high affinity and has been shown to have fluorescence properties. The TPPS molecule is the most common ligand in group p2 and has been sequenced. Tetrakis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)porphyrin has been shown to exhibit antioxidant activity in diabetic neuropathy models.
