- SEM-triphenylphosphonium Chloride
2-(Trimethylsilyl)ethoxymethyltriphenylphosphonium Chloride is a reagent that can be used for the deprotonation of diethyl ether, enol ethers, and aldehydes. It is soluble in argon and does not react with chloride. 2-(trimethylsilyl)ethoxymethyltriphenylphosphonium chloride should be used at low temperatures to prevent it from crystallizing. This compound is prepared by heating phosphonium chloride with trimethylsilylacetylene to produce trimethylsilylpropargylamine. The phosphonium salt then reacts with methoxide to produce the desired product.
