1-(Trimethylsilyl)-1-pentyne is an alkene that can be obtained from the hydrogenation of 1-pentene. It is a linear, terminal alkene with a boiling point at 111°C and a melting point at -77°C. The transformation of 1-(trimethylsilyl)pent-2-yne to 1-(trimethylsilyl)hexane was shown to be reversible by saponification. Biological targets for this compound include alkyne sequences in natural products, such as terpenoids. Substituted derivatives of 1-(trimethylsilyl)-1-pentyne are used in the synthesis of other compounds, including acid derivatives.
