4-(Toluene-4-sulfonyloxy)piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester is a synthetic drug that is metabolized by hydrolysis of the pivalate ester group to form the carboxylic acid. The compound has been shown to have anti-tumour activity in vitro and in vivo experiments, as well as inhibitory effects on protein synthesis in microsomal preparations. The transformation of 4-(Toluene-4-sulfonyloxy)piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester into its active form requires hydrochloric acid, which is not present in living organisms. Therefore, this compound is not likely to be carcinogenic or genotoxic.
