The drug is activated by hydrogen bonding and has been shown to have a low activation energy. It is structurally similar to 1,3-difluorobenzene, but with the addition of one fluorine atom at the 5 position. This drug has been studied using x-ray crystallography and photoelectron spectroscopy as well as computational studies in order to better understand its interaction energies and structural formula. 1,3,5-Trifluorobenzene has also been shown to inhibit the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as TNFα and IL-6 in human macrophages.
