This compound has been shown to have low energy levels due to its solute properties. 2,4,6-Trimethylbenzophenone also reacts with magnesium in carbon tetrachloride or with chloride in water at low temperatures to form chloromethylphenylmagnesium bromide or chloromethylphenylchloride respectively.
