Triphenylethylene is a phenolic compound that binds to the estrogen receptor. It has been shown to have anticancer properties and has been used in the treatment of breast cancer. Triphenylethylene has also been found to be an effective chemotherapeutic agent against human pathogens such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Helicobacter pylori, and Plasmodium falciparum. Triphenylethylene blocks mitochondrial membrane potential and induces apoptosis in cells by activating caspases. This agent also inhibits estradiol benzoate binding to the estrogen receptor, preventing its proliferation in breast cancer cells.
