Triethyl orthobenzoate inhibits cellular proliferation by binding to lysine residues on the receptor protein and forming intramolecular hydrogen bonds. The hydroxyl group reacts with the hydrogen fluoride solvent, producing methanol, which is then converted into formaldehyde and formic acid. This reaction prevents the hydrogen bond from forming between the receptor protein and its ligand, thereby inhibiting cell proliferation.
