Tellurium is a metallic element that has been found to have a number of biological activities. Tellurium has been shown to be an inhibitor of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia, which is characterized by low platelet counts. Tellurium binds to the active site of the enzyme, forming a covalent bond with the sulfhydryl group of the active site and inhibiting its function. It has been identified as a natural product in plants and fungi. It also has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. The structure of tellurium can be determined through fluorescence spectroscopy and reaction mechanism analysis. Tellurium can be used for analytical chemistry because it is resistant to oxidation and reduction reactions, making it stable in air or water. This element is also useful as an enzyme inhibitor because it binds directly to the active site, preventing access by substrate molecules or cofactors
