Flibanserin is a drug that is used to treat hypoactive sexual desire disorder in women. This drug has been found to increase serotonin levels in the brain by binding to 5-HT2 receptors. Flibanserin has been shown to have significant effects on body mass index, locomotor activity, and estradiol benzoate levels. Its pharmacological mechanism of action is not fully understood, but it may be due to matrix effects or changes in the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Flibanserin has an effect on the physiological effects such as sleep and mood, with its use being accompanied by an improvement in depression scores. Flibanserin is metabolized through different pathways including CYP3A4 and CYP2D6 enzymes, which are also responsible for its pharmacokinetic properties.
