1,1,1,3-Tetrafluoroacetone is a fluorinated ether that is a powerful solvent. It has been shown to react with protonated molecules in the gas phase and can be used as an electron donor in organic chemistry reactions. 1,1,1,3-Tetrafluoroacetone has been found to have paramagnetic properties and this property can be correlated with the submicrogram quantities of this compound in the environment. The spectral parameters for 1,1,1,3-Tetrafluoroacetone are very similar to those of epitestosterone. This similarity may be due to the electron shift from carbon to fluorine in the molecule.
