Trichloroheptafluorobutane is a fluorinated hydrocarbon with a chemical formula of CClF. It is used as a coating for various objects, such as polymer films and organic solvents, to provide protection from light or corrosion. Trichloroheptafluorobutane also serves as an intermediate in the preparation of other fluorinated compounds, such as alkynyl groups. Reaction temperatures are typically between −78 °C and +200 °C, but can be increased to around 300 °C if introducing heat is needed. The reaction products are largely aromatic hydrocarbons that contain chlorine atoms.
