4-(Trifluoromethyl)morpholine is an organic compound that is used for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and other organic compounds. 4-(Trifluoromethyl)morpholine is synthesized from potassium, fluoride, and dimethylformamide. The reaction proceeds via a nucleophilic substitution to form a formyl group. Hydrolysis of the formyl group then yields the desired product with a trifluoromethyl group. Elemental analyses show that this compound contains carbon, hydrogen, chlorine, and fluorine atoms. Trifluoromethyl groups are common in organic compounds because they are electron-rich and thus reactive.
