4-(Trifluoromethyl)diphenyl ether is a chemical compound that can be used as an insecticide. It utilizes fluorine and is a diphenyl ether with its chemical formula C6H3F3O. 4-(Trifluoromethyl)diphenyl ether is not water soluble and must be mixed with water before application to plants. The enzyme hydrolysis of this product is thermally activated and can be catalyzed by glutathione, sulfoxides, or divalent cations such as Cu2+, Ni2+, or Mn2+. This product has been shown to have an adverse effect on plant metabolism, specifically nitro-reductase inhibition in plants. 4-(Trifluoromethyl)diphenyl ether has also been shown to cause mitochondrial dysfunction in insects, which leads to their death. This product also has the ability to inhibit the growth of bacteria such as Staphylococcus
