Trifluoroacetyloxydimethylsulfonium (TFDM) is an ionic liquid that is categorized as a low-molecular weight quaternary ammonium compound. It has been shown to denature proteins, including enzymes and hormones, in urine samples. TFDM has also been used to study the frequency of particular types of bacteria in the gut by measuring their vibrations. A questionnaire was developed to assess the effects of TFDM on human health, which found that it can activate acid molecules in the body. TFDM has kinetic energy and orientation properties, which are important for its function as a catalyst. Kinetic energy determines how fast TFDM reacts with other compounds, while orientation determines where TFDM will react with other compounds.
