1,1,1-Trifluoro-3-(2-Thienyl)Acetone is a solvent that is used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It has been shown to extract metal ions from inorganic acid solutions. This compound has the ability to form monolayers on surfaces and has optical properties that are sensitive to changes in the environment. 1,1,1-Trifluoro-3-(2-Thienyl)Acetone also reacts with sulfoxides and forms organometallic compounds. These molecules have been shown to be reactive under certain conditions and can emit light when excited by energy sources such as lasers or UV light. 1,1,1-Trifluoro-3-(2-Thienyl)Acetone has also been shown to react with acrylonitrile (a monomer) and form morphologies of molecules with different shapes.
