It has been shown to be an efficient and selective catalyst for palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions. Tris(3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)phosphine can also be used as a bidentate ligand in homogeneous catalysts such as supercritical carbon dioxide and organic solvents. This ligand has been shown to have a high reactivity and hydrogen bonding ability, which allows it to increase the reaction rate of many reactions involving organic compounds. Tris(3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)phosphine is used in the synthesis of benzoates from alcohols by hydration.
