It forms crystalline compounds with theophylline and caffeine. 2,2,4,4-Tetrakis(trifluoromethyl)-1,3-dithietane has been used as an alkylation reagent and as a nucleophile in the synthesis of purines. This chemical is also useful for the preparation of isomers and hexanes. 2,2,4,4-Tetrakis(trifluoromethyl)-1,3-dithietane is unstable in air and reacts readily with water to form hydrofluoric acid. The chemical can be stored in a dry place at room temperature because it does not react with most organic solvents or metals
