1,3,5-Trifluoro-2,4,6-tris(trifluoromethyl)benzene (TFBT) is a perfluorinated compound that has been shown to be reactive at lower temperatures. It has a nucleophilic nature and undergoes nucleophilic substitutions when exposed to methanes and ethylene. TFBT has a high yield in the reaction between oxygen and fluorine atoms in the presence of an alkylating agent such as methyl iodide. The resulting product can be used as lubricant or an aliphatic chain in polymers.
