Budesonide-d8 is an experimental model that has been used to study the effects of the drug on disease activity in different types of inflammatory bowel disease. It is a long-acting corticosteroid that blocks eosinophil activation and prevents the release of various mediators, including alopecia areata. Budesonide-d8 also binds to methyltransferase and blocks the production of inflammatory compounds, such as eosinophil cationic protein and eosinophil peroxidase. This drug also has been shown to be effective for eye disorders, chronic cough, and glomerular filtration rate in vitro.
