Descripción:Retinoids are a class of compounds that have been used as drugs to treat various skin diseases, including psoriasis and acne. Retinoids also have physiological effects on many different cells, including the cells of the immune system. Vitamin A acetate is a synthetic retinoid that is used in low doses to treat squamous carcinomas. This drug is an ester of retinol and acetic acid, which is converted to retinaldehyde in vivo. The conversion of vitamin A acetate to retinaldehyde has been shown to be catalyzed by enzymes such as p-nitrophenyl phosphate.
