Vanadium(V) oxychloride is a vanadium compound that belongs to the group of fatty acid and glycol ether. It is an analytical reagent for determination of metal hydroxides, oxidation catalyst, and hydrochloric acid. Vanadium(V) oxychloride has high resistance against oxidation by air and water, which makes it suitable as a column packing material in gas chromatographic analysis. Vanadium(V) oxychloride can be prepared from sodium carbonate and diethyl succinate with the formation rate dependent on the ratio of these two reactants.
