It is soluble in organic solvents and can be used as an additive to polyethylene glycols, monomers, and coatings. C.I. Vat Orange 4 has been shown to react with radiation and metal hydroxides to form the polymerization inhibitor propionate. This polymerization inhibitor prevents polymerization reactions from occurring at high temperatures or when exposed to thermal energy.
