The compound has also been shown to have high affinity for opioid receptors and δ opioid receptors, which may be due to its ability to form supramolecular complexes with these proteins. Z-L-Valine N-hydroxysuccinimide ester binds to the receptor binding site of the protein, preventing it from interacting with other molecules. It is not selective for one receptor over another and can bind to both the δ and μ opioid receptors. This synthetic substance may be used as a lead compound in drug development.
