Descripción

Vindolinine is a nucleophilic alkaloid that inhibits the uptake of glucose by pancreatic cells. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of cancer and diabetes. Vindolinine is a monoterpenoid indole alkaloid that is found in plants belonging to the family Apocynaceae. Magnetic resonance spectroscopy has revealed that vindolinine is structurally similar to other alkaloids, such as vincamine, which are used for the treatment of diabetes. In tissue culture experiments, vindolinine has been shown to inhibit fatty acid synthesis and increase fatty acid oxidation.
