X 396 inhibits the activity of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and has been shown to have potent antitumor activity in pre-clinical studies. The molecule binds to the tyrosine kinase domain of EGFR and prevents it from binding with its ligands, which would otherwise stimulate cell proliferation. X 396 was found to be reactive with human monoclonal antibodies against EGFR, suggesting that this drug may be an appropriate agent for treating EGFR-positive tumors.
