It also shows thermally induced bactericidal activity with a thermal death time of 1 hour at 50°C. This compound has a helical structure with two methoxy groups on each end, which allows it to bind magnesium ions in the cell membrane, making it possible for the compound to enter the cell. The 1,2-dimethoxyanthracene-9,10-dione molecule is also able to bind chloride ions.
