Descripción:4-Hydroxy-1,6-dimethyl-1H-pyridin-2-one is a heterocyclic compound that is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds. It has been shown to have antiproliferative activity against human tumor cells and induces apoptosis. This compound also has anti-inflammatory properties and can be used as a substitute for malononitrile in the synthesis of cytotoxic drugs. 4-Hydroxy-1,6-dimethyl-1H-pyridin-2-one is synthesized by cyclocondensation reaction between cyanate and sulfinyl chlorides. The yield of this compound can be increased with the use of a Lewis acid such as aluminum chloride or zinc chloride.
