The structure of 1-hydroxy-2-methylanthraquinone was determined by chemical analysis and chromatography. This compound consists of a hydroxy group and a cavity where an acetate group can be attached, which contribute to its antioxidant properties. 1-Hydroxy-2-methylanthraquinone also has the ability to inhibit cell growth in culture by inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division.
