This drug also has an optical rotation of [α]D=−5.5° and can be used as a diagnostic ligand in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging studies. 5-Methoxynaphthalen-1-amine can be used to identify binding sites for the P-gp efflux pump, which is often expressed at low levels on tumor cells and is important in promoting resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs.
