It is an intramolecular inhibitor of the enzyme, target molecules, that catalyzes the formation of ergosterol in fungi. The inhibition of this enzyme leads to the accumulation of squalene and other sterols, which causes cell death. 4-Isopropylbenzenesulfonamide also has x-ray diffraction studies that have shown its ability to inhibit germination of spores from some fungi.
