Valeroin is a naturally-occurring carbohydrate with the chemical formula C6H10O5. It is an oligosaccharide that consists of a linear chain of six glucose molecules with a terminal glucose molecule at one end and an acetyl group at the other. Valeroin has been shown to have immunoregulatory effects, which are mediated by their ability to stimulate lymphocyte proliferation and cytokine production. Valeroin also has been shown to react with alkene functional groups in a mass spectrometric reaction system, cleaving the carbon-carbon bond and releasing two products.
