Deltamedrane is a hydroxylated steroid that is classified as an electron vector. It has been shown to inhibit the expression of proteins in mammalian cells by binding to their DNA. Deltamedrane can be used as an agent for gene therapy, and has also been shown to act as a chaperone for the transfer of heterologous nucleic acid. Deltamedrane binds to the hydroxylase proteins, which are responsible for hydroxylating proteins and hormones. Hydroxylation is required for the production of protein and hormone chains, and it also regulates their activity.
