It is a model molecule for the study of the effects of constant on the vibrational frequency of 1,3,5-pentanetricarboxylic acid and its derivatives. 1,3,5-Pentanetricarboxylic acid has also been shown to bind to mitochondria and act as a crosslinking agent. Moreover, it has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting phagocytosis in neutrophils.
