6-Dodecyne is a chiral compound that belongs to the group of redox cycle compounds. It is synthesized by the addition of ammonium nitrate to an alkene, followed by cleavage of the nitrate ester with acetonitrile and then reduction of the nitro group with hydrogen fluoride. The product can be purified using preparative methods such as vacuum distillation or chromatography. 6-Dodecyne has estrogenic activity, which can be measured in a bioassay using a yeast estrogen screen. This preparation also shows stereoselective activity, meaning it reacts preferentially at one side of an asymmetric carbon atom.
