Descripción:(3R,3'S-Meso)-zeaxanthin is a carotenoid that can be found in plants and animals. It is a member of the xanthophylls group, which are yellow pigments found in plants. This compound has been shown to have antioxidant properties in cell culture and animal models. (3R,3'S-Meso)-zeaxanthin has also been shown to inhibit cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity in rats. The antioxidant activity of zeaxanthin may be due to its ability to scavenge reactive oxygen species and chelate metals such as iron and copper. Zeaxanthin also inhibits DNA damage caused by genotoxic agents such as ultraviolet light and gamma radiation.
