TBP has high values of radiation stability and chemical stability. TBP can be used to prepare a number of pharmaceuticals that are insoluble in water or other solvents due to its chelating ability. TBP is also used as a coating on the surface of zirconium oxide particles to increase the hydrophobicity and thus the stability of the particles. TBP is also used as a staining agent for fatty acids and as a photostabilizer for pharmaceutical preparations.
