4-Acridinecarboxylic acid is an anticancer agent that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It is a member of the acridones, which are derivatives of anthranilic acid and have been extensively studied for their antifungal and antitumour activity. 4-Acridinecarboxylic acid has shown potent anticancer activity in both animal models and human tumour xenografts. This drug also has strong inhibitory effects on cellular membranes, cellular uptake, protein synthesis, and DNA replication. 4-Acridinecarboxylic acid also exhibits antibacterial activity by binding to bacterial RNA polymerase, preventing transcription and replication.
