2-Acetamido-5-methoxytoluene is a synthetic, intramolecular compound with an acetamide group. It can be synthesized from anthranilic acid and formaldehyde in the presence of hydrochloric acid. The structure of 2-acetamido-5-methoxytoluene has been determined by its hydrogen bonding pattern, which is predominantly intramolecular. The molecule can undergo a variety of reactions including demethylation, carbamoylation, and deoxyvasicinone formation. These reactions are catalyzed by various enzymes such as deoxyvasicinone synthase, butylcarbamate synthase and carbamoyl phosphate synthetase II.
