It is a Grignard reagent, which is an alkoxide of magnesium that reacts with an alkyl halide to form an alcohol or an ether. The 4-tert-butylcyclohexane-1-carbonitrile can also be used for the arylation of ketones and for the stereospecific alkylation of primary amines.
