(E)-Ethyl 3-iodoacrylate is an analogously synthesized ligand. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of the hepatitis C virus in vitro and in vivo. The synthesis of (E)-Ethyl 3-iodoacrylate was achieved through palladium-catalyzed coupling of ethyl diazoacetate and iodomethane. This process is stereoselective, with high yields obtained for the desired product. The use of halides as coupling partners allows for the incorporation of a variety of functional groups into the final product, which may have applications in cross-coupling reactions.
