6-Methyl-2,2'-bipyridine is a synthetic compound that is used as a ligand in the copper-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction. 6-Methyl-2,2'-bipyridine was first reported in 1885 by German chemist Hans von Pechmann. It has also been used as a solvent and an intermediate for organic synthesis. The compound is soluble in acetonitrile and can be evaporated to give a white solid. 6-Methyl-2,2'-bipyridine is a nonpolar molecule with two hydrogen bonds and one unidentate ligand, which allows it to bind to metal ions such as copper or palladium.
