15-Bromopentadecanoic acid is a fatty acid that has been shown to have uptake in cancer cells and in vivo studies. The mechanism of action is not yet known, but it may be due to the quinolinium and indolium moieties which are able to bind to the cell membrane, preventing the uptake of glucose or other nutrients. It has also been shown to induce embolization when combined with long-chain fatty acids. 15-Bromopentadecanoic acid is an envisaged drug candidate for cancer treatment, as it does not affect physiological levels in organisms.
