Salen-Mn is an organic compound that has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of prostate cancer cells. It also has a selective reaction with reactive oxygen species and inhibits autophagy, a process by which cells break down their own organelles for energy in response to starvation. Salen-Mn selectively binds to n-cadherin, a protein involved in cell adhesion and migration, and is used as a tool for profiling bladder cancer cells. The asymmetric synthesis of this compound enables it to have different stereochemical configurations, which can be used for structural elucidation of biomolecules.
